The American Hotel Street Art Free Wall in 360°

Back in January, I captured this pano of the American Hotel's free wall. It featured a piece by Cali Killa called ”Beware Hipsters” (above). Then last week, I took this pano of the same wall (below) which features among other works, a message from Fearless LA, a church group originally from Modesto that's settled into the Los Angeles scene.

Regarding change, this neighborhood has changed so much, I just didn't recognize it. Back in the day, the legendary punk rock dive Al’s Bar was here, but today the space now holds a combination of theater space and yoga studio aka the Archway Studio/Theater. The building is also home to the Traction & Hewitt General Store and a bakery known as the Pie Hole LA.

Yoga? Pie?!

Over at the Novel Cafe across the street, I was enjoying a vegetarian sandwich with artisan bacon (don't ask) when I met this punker dude that resides at the American Hotel. He said he's lived in downtown Los Angeles since the 80's so I asked him what he thought about the gentrification.

He was pretty philosophical in that, on the one hand, he wanted to shake his fist and tell everyone to "!@#$* off."

But then, on the other hand, he said "Meh. Change is inevitable. What are ya gonna do?
